How to Prevent Screen Cracks and Scratches

An essential part of our daily lives, the smartphone is a fragile object that is easily damaged and broken. The touchscreen is the most vulnerable part, particularly due to its increasingly large size.

In this article, we’ll share tips on how to prevent screen cracks and scratches on your smartphone. They include, but are not limited to, the following.

1. Use a protective case or cover

Our mobile devices are with us everywhere, so it makes sense to protect them from the inevitable accidents. A protective case covers the back and sides of your phone, with its raised edges preventing the screen from coming into direct contact with the ground in the event of a fall. It can extend the life of your device and screen, so choose a case that fits your phone model and doesn’t interfere with its use, e.g., buttons, connectors, camera, etc.

2. Apply a screen guard

Even if your phone is fitted with a case or cover, the front panel remains exposed to bumps and scratches. It is therefore advisable to add a transparent adhesive film to protect your phone’s screen. These small, flexible plastic films are quite affordable, but make sure to remove any air bubbles between the protective film and the screen when applying it. Usually, the person who sells this should be able to do it for you.

3. Adopt the right habits to protect your phone screen

Protecting your phone requires intentional effort. For instance, instead of putting your phone on the corner of the table or in a bag full of other things, get into the habit of putting it in a safe place. This will prevent accidental drops, scratches, and forgetfulness.

Here are other safety precautions to imbibe:

  • Avoid placing your phone near a glass of water, coffee cup, or any other liquid.
  • Don’t keep your phone in your back pocket, or you risk sitting on it.
  • Avoid putting any heavy object on your phone to prevent damage.
  • Never allow children to play with your smartphone unsupervised.
  • Avoid extreme temperatures (hot or cold) to avoid damaging the screen; this will also help preserve your smartphone’s battery.

4. Clean your screen regularly

Because we use our smartphones daily, it is liable to accumulate dirt and grease over time, clouding the screen and making phone usage less comfortable. In cases when a particle drops on your phone, and you try to use your hand to remove it, often by dragging it across the screen, it can lead to scratches and cracks. To prevent this, use a soft microfiber cloth to wipe your screen. Avoid paper towels, as their texture can scratch your screen.

5. Make replacements or repairs when necessary

Repair your phone immediately if there’s a crack. Also, when your screen guard gets broken, replace it as soon as possible. Failure to do so, the crack might make your phone prone to bigger preventable damages and a permanent distortion of the phone’s screen. Not to mention that a cracked screen guard can also harm you when not handled properly.

Conclusion

Whether it’s an iPhone, an Android, or a Samsung, a smartphone is expensive and deserves to be protected. It goes everywhere with you, and you rely on it every day. A few good habits will help you avoid common accidents and extend the life and performance of your phone.
